Each day in the run-up to the finals, we’re doing two tracks from the 2015 Eurovision Song Competition and tearing them to shreds analysing them carefully in a bid to predict the winner on May 23rd.
POLAND: Monika Kuszynska – “In The Name of Love”
MOSH: This isn’t bad. It’s also not very good. The singer sounds like she’s bored for most of it, and that feeling’s infectious. Of course, it does have the standard (boring) increase in tempo and volume about 2/3 of the way through. Like so many other tracks. Offhand, I think it has about 20 words which are repeated over and over. None of them being Euro-standards like “boo-bang-a-boo”. 3/5
DAVE: the song that went “Oooh baby baby it’s a wild world”….that’s the opening piano riff of this one. Another ballady type song, my kids loved it – probably because it gets a bit rocky towards the end. 2/5
PORTUGAL: Leonor Andrade – “Há Um Mar Que Nos Separa”
MOSH: Another big bag of “meh”. I’m giving it a bonus mark simply because Ronaldo has stopped being a pretentious, arrogant dickhead the last few weeks and has started being nice to people. I’ve pilloried Portugal in the past because of him, so credit where it’s due. 2/5
DAVE: At last…the run of complete and utter ballads stops. This one is more upbeat, bringing with it a bit of electronica, some guitar. It will have people up bopping. No idea what the song is about though as once again it’s in foreign and I don’t speak foreign (apart from a little bit of French, but that’s feck all use here) 3/5
