A band encoming many sounds, U.N.S.I.N. released a new single recently, and took time to answer our BotD questions…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Athens, Greece.
How did you meet?
We met each other from different musical projects, we wanted to make our own sound and we created U.N.S.I.N.
How long have you been playing as a band?
We started the band back in 2009. There was some line up changes over the years. We were inactive from 2012-2017 which was the year we met our singer Evi Nadia and then we started over again.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
We were trying to find a short, easy listening name, throwing some ideas and finally we were between unsin or unseen. Since unseen definition was something we didn’t like we stuck to unsin but there was a music project having that name… we were digging in general to find any other definition on that name so we found U.N.S.I.N (with dots) having the meaning of United Nation Substance Identification Number. So that was it!
What are your influences?
Every member of the band has different influences which vary from alternative, punk, progressive, metal, rock, jazz, DnB, soul, RnB etc.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music is a hybrid of many influences, in between experimental-alternative-groovy-prog metal. We believe that what makes us unique is the combination of our aggressive sound with Evi Nadia’s different perspective who playfully changes her vocal line style from rock to RnB and vice versa.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
The lyrics are 100% percent written by Evi Nadia, so the themes are based on her personal experiences with a strong feeling of redemption.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We love being on stage so when we have a gig we give all of our energy and express our ion through our music. Since the band was inactive for many years we‘ve only played around 20 shows
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
The wildest thing we ‘ve seen was in a Rammstein’s live show in Berlin when they were performing their song “Buck Dich”. If you see it you’ ll understand why.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
We play with Mapex Orion drum kit, PRS-Gibson guitars, Kemper and Diezel Amplification, Ibanez Bass and Mark Bass bass amplification.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We are promoting our new single “Addict”, that we ‘ve just released and focusing on our new music video which is going to be released very very soon.
What are your plans for 2020?
We are planning to release some more singles and if everything is ok with the Covid19 pandemic, we are going to release our full length album and start our live shows.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be ing and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
It would be an honour for us to a gig with bands such as Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Slipknot in a three-band bill, but we actually have no suggestion for the opening act. We could even play in both slots.
