Ooh, we’ve not done a Classic Cover for a while but I was quite tickled by this latest release from metalcore act Tethra. They’ve just popped out a video for their cover of Vanessa Carlton’s light and airy “A Thousand Miles”. Impressively they’ve managed to drop the tuning down, bang in some great bass, add screamed vocals and still made it sound like a ballad – probably due to the huge amount of tapped guitar.
Is the original old enough to qualify as a “classic”? Hard to believe, but it’s 17 years old. Blimey.
Commenting on the band’s creative decision to deliver this project, Tethra say:
Many of us in the band are fans of the pop goes punk type of covers. We wanted to do something similar, but more outside of the box. “A Thousand Miles” was a song I loved when I was younger. At first, we thought it would be funny to do. Quite honestly, we had no idea how it would turn out and were a little nervous. When we heard the final product, we were pleasantly surprised! Transposing a song like this and adding one’s own artistic touch is quite a learning experience.
