Returning for a third year, StormBreakers hits Bathgate’s Dreadnought Rock to give new bands the chance to play Winter Storm’s main stage and follow in the footsteps of alumni Everyday Heroes. With five bands set to take to the Dreadnought’s stage, and the running order not revealed until the night itself, just like last year, we’re giving you an advance look at who you can expect to perform. It’s always been a great night, full of new discoveries to be made and while only one band can win the top prize, we reckon you’ll be leaving with a handful of new favourite bands.
After recently tackling our #RoadToBOA questions, Fallen Temples are back to answer the #RoadToStormBreakers variation.
Fallen Temples
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
From Cardiff, South Wales.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Vaughany and Lewis have been playing in a band together for about 13 years, so a fairly hefty chunk of time! Stirland ed the mix in 2015. So about 5 years as Fallen Temples, I’d say.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It was something that took us a while to establish actually. We were originally called something which wasn’t good (not for sharing). After the first EP was finished, we were listening through and drinking Stirland’s homebrew in his garage, then the lyrics from Eternal Drift: “Now that your temples have fallen” popped out to us, and the rest is history.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music has been described as riff & groove (R&G). Like 70s rock on steroids! Influences from: Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Metallica, Rival Sons, Pink Floyd, Monster Truck, Pantera, etc. all merged into an epic sound. We’re a 3-piece, energetic outfit bringing big sounds, riff and groove to every performance.
What’s your live show like? How are you hoping to impress the judges?
We always give our all to every show, lots of energy and as much presence as we can possibly project. We enjoy playing and we enjoy music as a whole, it shines through in our music and stage shows.
Have you been to Winter Storm before?
No we haven’t actually, but it is something that has been on the list for a while. There’s some awesome bands playing!
How did you hear about StormBreakers? What prompted you to enter?
We first heard of StormBreakers when our good buddies, Everyday Heroes were in (and won) the competition last year. It’s something that we have been keen to get involved in, and try to uphold the South Wales presence!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We have a good list of hard rock, groovy, riff laden bangers, that we are keen to unleash. One or 2 from our first EP and some more from our soon-to-be-released second EP too! The setlist will be strong, there will be lots of energy, and heads will (hopefully) be banging in the crowd.
Other than yourselves, who are you most looking forward to watch perform at StormBreakers?
Looking forward to meeting, seeing/hearing all the bands in the competition. Always good to meet new people with the same ion for playing and music. If we were to pick one, Heartbreak Remedy sound pretty awesome!
What’s been the highlight of the band’s career so far?
Quite a few actually, but the latest one, is having the opportunity to play the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock. It was frigging awesome!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We play at a festival in mid-Wales (Llanidloes) every year. We have an established fan-base up there, and everyone is just awesome! Most of the crazy things we have seen have been at those gigs. The one for me that was just insane and hilarious, was watching a man, crowd-surfing with his face squeaking across the ceiling from front to back. It was pretty low!
What are you working on at the moment/your plans for the rest of the year?
We have a really busy rest-of-the-year now. We’ve just finished recording our second EP. Just finalising before release very soon. It’s gonna be so big. We’re recording an accompanying video for one of the singles off the new EP and in between we have loads of awesome gigs: this one (our first time playing in Scotland) which we’re excited about, and a few Welsh shows including one which we’re extra excited about: ing Skindred in Cwmbran Stadium on October 26th. Fairly packed schedule, but it’s what we love doing. Trying to keep the momentum going and build up the fan base really!
