Returning for a third year, StormBreakers hits Bathgate’s Dreadnought Rock to give new bands the chance to play Winter Storm’s main stage and follow in the footsteps of alumni Everyday Heroes. With five bands set to take to the Dreadnought’s stage, and the running order not revealed until the night itself, just like last year, we’re giving you an advance look at who you can expect to perform. It’s always been a great night, full of new discoveries to be made and while only one band can win the top prize, we reckon you’ll be leaving with a handful of new favourite bands.
The second of two gigs for them that day, we’re sure Twister will be taking it in their stride. Let’s see what they have to say!
Twister
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re based in the North East of England, just outside Durham City.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Well, I (Stevie) have had the band for 15 years. I started it when I was at school but this line up has only been together since March of this year.
Where does the name of the band come from?
We wanted something short and memorable that reflected energy and Twister is what we ended up with.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
For short, we’d say it’s pop/rock but more than that, it’s dramatic, emotional, powerful and very engaging. Our aim is to make everyone in attendance feel like they’re part of it.
What’s your live show like? How are you hoping to impress the judges?
Above everything thing else, we are a live band and love performing. That’s where we feel at home. Our live shows are non-stop. We start quickly and keep building the pace. Its 50% high energy, 30% dramatic and 20% emotional. We just hope everyone has a great time and anything else is a bonus.
Have you been to Winter Storm before?
We haven’t but we know a few bands that have played it in the past and we’ve heard great things.
How did you hear about StormBreakers? What prompted you to enter?
Again, we know some of the bands from previous years and thought we’d give it a go.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’ve been on tour since the beginning of June so most of what we will be playing is from that tour show. Including our show intro.
Other than yourselves, who are you most looking forward to watch perform at StormBreakers?
We’re hoping to catch everyone. However, we have a show earlier in the day in the North East so we will be pushing it.
What’s been the highlight of the band’s career so far?
We’ve had a lot of highlights to be honest. In 2016, we won 2 awards at the Ubeat music awards for best band and best album which was amazing. We’ve also done a lot of travelling including 2 trips to Greece for a 3-4 shows at a time. It’s great to hear people you’ve never met sing your songs back at you.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Not so much wild but definitely a challenge. We were once the backing band for Bumblefoot on his 2015 UK tour. We didn’t even meet him until the sound check of show one. Towards the end of the set he started playing some GN’R songs we hadn’t looked at. I had to get my guitar tech to Google the chord charts as he was playing the intro and I lifted my guitar up to show the rest of the band how to play it. I was a bit on edge!
What are you working on at the moment/your plans for the rest of the year?
We have our next single pretty much ready to go and were just about to start plans for the next music video. Towards the back end of the year we plan on being back in the studio and getting ready to release the next album. I can’t wait to get started!
