It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Terminal Sun who play the New Blood Stage on Friday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Sheffield, home of Steel and daunting nuclear threat!
How long have you been playing together as a band?
3 or 4 years give or take the odd pandemic induced hiatus!
Where does the name of the band come from?
As a species we’ve always been obsessed with the end of the world in one way or another, popular media usually dictates some kind of man-made apocalypse will take us out whereas the Mayans predicted a more planetary event. Terminal Sun is harmony between the two understandings, a shadowy industrialized cult, focused on one goal, to bring about the death of the sun and the end of human existence.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We write music to satisfy ourselves first and foremost, we have a very diverse mix of tastes that bubble together to create our style, we try not to overthink the whole genre thing but you’ll definitely hear our influences coming through whether it’s Entombed or Sepultura, Rush or John Carpenter. We’ve always said anything goes as long as it’s good can squeeze through our rigorous self testing protocols!
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our shows are Intense, loud, diverse, exciting and atmospheric. We put our all into every single performance and include an element of story-telling that we use along with an energetic and hypnotic performance to draw people in!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Some of us have been many times, those that have (Adam and Simon) love the atmosphere, the fact that the site is laid out and organised incredibly well, the diversity and quality of the line ups and the people are amazing, that’s what it’s really about.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won the Sheffield M2tM 2020/2021 competition, we got off to a banging start with it just before COVID put a kibosh on the whole thing but after things continued based on a submission of live recordings we got through.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Expletives at gradually increasing volume, punching the air for a fortnight.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
One that starts with a bang and includes a good representation of our most popular material with our fans. All our songs are distinct and we’ve ordered them to create an interesting dynamic performance ending with our most epic song that builds from subtle ambience into an absolutely crushing and anthemic crescendo.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Devin Townsend for sure, Judas Priest, Paradise Lost, Therapy?

What are you working on at the moment?
We’re gearing up to record and release our first album, we have plans to record a video and lining up more live dates.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We once played a show in an actual crypt!
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Water/coke/coffee/maybe a pint or two to wet the whistle!
