Video Roundup: Infex / Swallow The Sun / Diesel Theory / Tongues Of Fire / Armored Saint / A.D. 2020

There is just so much new music coming out that I wish I had the time to draft one of these posts each day. With 20 videos in it. But I don’t, so you’ll have to settle for this selection from our bursting mailbox!

Infex

Bay Area thrashers Infex have released a lyric video for “The Abyss”, a track from forthcoming album Burning in Exile. The video was directed and edited by Lance Woodruff. Concerning the lyrical inspiration for “The Abyss,” the band had this to say:

“The Abyss” was inspired by the famous quote from Friedrich Nietzsche – ‘Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.’

Swallow The Sun

Finnish death doom metal masters Swallow The Sun release their first live track and video for “Don’t Fall Asleep (Horror, Pt. II) [Live in Helsinki]” today via Century Media Records. The song is taken from the band’s live album entitled 20 Years of Gloom, Beauty and Despair – Live in Helsinki, which will be released on the 30th of July 2021.

Diesel Theory

After dropping the much-anticipated album Hidden from the Sun in June, Diesel Theory released a new lyric video for “Breathing Underwater”, animated by Scott Rudd Films.

Tongues Of Fire

North Carolinian post-punk group Tongues Of Fire today announce the August 27th release of their Burn My Body Clean EP via Florida’s Godless America Records.

Alongside the announcement they share the lead-off single/video “Room”. The track is set in a period of depressive self-isolation that the group’s songwriter Lowell Hobbs entered following his mother’s untimely ing to cancer. He notes:

Believe it or not the song was written pre-pandemic. It was super cathartic to be able to express those feelings and it’s also kind of beautiful in a way that my very personal singular experience became a collective one because of COVID too.
