100-Word Review: Game Over – Burst into the Quiet

Game Over - Burst into the QuietBurst Into the Quiet was released on June 23rd, so if this review appeals then you can grab it already. One look at the band’s logo should be enough to conjure up images of the likes of Nuclear Assault and that’s a decent first impression.

Game over signed a deal with Scarlet Records for the release of this album, following the critically acclaimed debut For Humanity. Inspired by the classic Bay Area thrash metal scene, Game Over mix those influences with modern sounds and a very distinctive personality, which the new album displays in full force.

These 9 brand-new tracks are made of sharp riffs, groovy rhytms and super-fast guitar solos, with lyrics ranging from the horror imaginary of the Eighties b-movies to social commentary and introspective thoughts. Burst Into The Quiet has been produced, mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni (DGM) at Domination Studios and features a beautiful cover by Mario Lopez.

Game Over are a band, like many recently, who are recreating a classic sound. Without messing with a proven formula too much – if it isn’t broken, why fix it? – their chosen genre is classic (“Bay Area”) thrash.

when Metallica were new and fresh? When Megadeth were known for their music, not Dave’s political rants? When Exodus were up there with everyone else rather than one of the also-rans? These guys do.

Nine tracks that will leave you exhausted just listening to them, albums like this carry on a great legacy. With bands like Game Over, thrash will never die!
