EP Review: DeathCollector – Times Up

Emerging from various groups such as Ashen Crown, Severe Lacerations and even ex- of Bolt Thrower, DeathCollector have a simple message: when your time’s up you’re done. And thus the band present their debut EP – Times Up.

The EP consists of three three tracks, the first one being “DeathCollecter”. This starts off lurking in the shadows with a menacing riff that builds. The drums are purposeful, bass lines run rampant and the vocals are appropriately guttural. A very promising start indeed and very appropriate for the EP’s artwork.

“Internal Expansion” really shows the talent that this collective possesses. Much like its predecessor, the track splinters off into really sharp sections and every time I have listened to it so far I’ve found a new part to enjoy.

The final track, “Terrorizer”, is the highlight of the EP. It’s easily the most unrelenting although the middle part has a really great spiralling twist, and the guitar solo that follows is one of the reasons I can’t stop hitting repeat.

DeathCollector are:

  • Drums: Andy Whale (Darkened, Ex-Memoriam, Ex-Bolt Thrower)
  • Guitar: Mick Carey (Zealot Cult)
  • Bass: Lee Cummings (Severe Lacerations)
  • Vocals: Kieran Scott (Ashen Crown, Grimorte)

Knowing the inevitability of the reaper, the band are already working on their first full-length album but this is a direct hit straight from the scythe.

Times Up will be released 4th March
