featured one of their videos some time ago (8 years… wow)! Damnatio Aeterna is therefore the first full album I’ve listened to from them and it grabbed me pretty quickly.
The Italian band are placed under the banner of occult / horror metal though this is more a subject matter branding than anything to do with the style of music. This I would place into the epic / orchestral metal bucket, and they do what they do very well indeed. Imagine a slightly toned-down, darker version of Nightwish and the like and you’ll have a vague idea. Or scroll down to listen to “Sanctified” which is a typically excellent song from the album.
Deathless Legacy are more than just another band with keyboards and a female singer, though. Their song writing is top notch, and there’s honestly not a bad song on the album. Managing to sound like someone’s added a rock soundtrack to the classic Universal monster movies, they’re alternately creepy and catchy. You can headbang to this stuff, or you can dance to it – and you get value for money with the runtime being a (night)shade under an hour.

It’s a concept album and (from the blurb) “…tells the thrilling story of the lesser demon Malchrum, who is challenged by Lucifer to ensnare a priest in an unspeakable sin, thereby ensuring his eternal damnation.” The songs included wind us through this tale and certainly held my attention for a couple of listens while I reviewed.
From the thumping beat and spooky choir of the opening title track to the haunting finale that is “Gehenna” this is a great collection of songs. Riddled with variety, they chuck in church organ sounds better than any other band I’ve heard to date! Check out “Get On Your Knees” for a perfect example. Add in Steva’s wonderful understated vocals and you have a sure-fire hit.
I have to also mention the album art and photography which was all done by the band “leader” Frater Orion (Andrea Falaschi) who has also designed work for bands like Delain, Elvenking and Temperance. I love the clever yet simple red and black cover image.
If you like Ghost, then I think you’ll like this. There’s a lot to listen to and it’s all good.

I agree this is a top drawer album. Not sure why they don’t get wider recognition
So many bands out there, it’s a nightmare trying to be heard above the throng. A shame, especially for a band this good.
Great review! OMG – this is the album of the summer 2025 for me – utterly superb stuff! Progressive horror metal with jazz and trance element – that just works!
