on the UK and Irish dates came from Sweden’s Outshine. With rich vocals reminiscent of Type O Negative, frontman Tony Jelencovich held the audience captive throughout the band’s set.

Outshine treated the Belfast crowd to a fine performance of their old and new material, with their dark, melancholic gothic tunes paving the way for the main act. Judging by the reaction of many around me, they won over new fans tonight.
Opening with “From the Gallows” from latest album Medusa, Paradise Lost emerged onto the stage to an almighty cheer from the eager audience. They quickly broke into “Hallowed Land” and settled into a perfect pace, set by drummer Waltteri Vayrynen. He has brought not only his talent behind the kit but also a renewed enthusiasm to the band and is a joy to watch.
The set tonight contained a varied mix of tracks from the band’s extensive back catalogue. Personal favourites included “Eternal”, “Pity the Sadness” and a particularly good performance of “Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us”.

Aaron Aedy appeared to be thoroughly enjoying himself despite being crammed into the corner of the stage, on the other side Greg Mackintosh played each solo with perfection.
The 16 song set didn’t leave much time for any of Nick Holmes droll sense of humour between songs and before long the band were leaving the stage after “Embers Fire”.
The delay that followed before the encore resulted in some people assuming the show was over and leaving. Those who stayed were treated to “No Hope In Sight”, “The Longest Winter” and crowd favourite “Say Just Words”. A superb performance by the purveyors of doom metal.
